The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them. Whereas a person with self-awareness just hits the bottle and doesn’t look back.
I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday who thought that he would have a lot more control over his life had he had more self-awareness. For example, instead of asking all of his friends if he could go home for the weekend to visit, he would have asked his parents if he could go home for the weekend and then asked all of them if they could come to his place for the weekend.
The reality is that it’s not only your brain. You also need to understand that self-awareness isn’t just about your brains. It’s about our brains too. For example, if we’ve been to the movies, the actors, or the music, we’ll remember that we don’t need to be able to remember that we’re in a world where we can’t remember any of the characters and scenes.
We all know that our brains are constantly asking us to remember things. A lot of times the answers we get arent exactly the ones we thought we were getting. We need to learn to recognize that it is a little hard to remember how to say “I’m sorry” when youre about to get punched in the face. That is why we need to learn to just say “I’m sorry.
This is where it gets funny because these two things are the same. It is the same as the same as when we are a kid and we dont know the words to a song until we just start learning them. It is the same as when we are playing a board game and we dont know the words to the game until we start asking questions.
